My name is Mark Kelly, I am a photographer based in London.
Back in the 90’s, a friend who was an amazing analogue retoucher (who now has a book called, Fashion Image Revolution - check it out; ) used to show me prints he was retouching by hand, for photographers such as Nick Knight, Anton Corbijn, and Glen Lutchford. Those amazing images I was exposed to back then (Seriously no pun intended :), resonated with me ever since. Thinking that I could never do photography but always having the question in the back of my mind… but could I? I eventually took the leap and picked up a camera myself when my first son was born, while at the time studying for a law degree.
As my photography knowledge grew, shots of the family soon expanded into taking social documentary portraits, studying work of the many Magnum photographer’s and the way they looked at story telling and how they composed their frame. I studied the great fashion photographers from Richard Avedon through to the present with Steven Meisel and all in-between and the way they manipulated light; to Anne Leibowitz one of my favourite portrait photographers of all time. They have all had an inspired and influenced my photography in some way.
I love collaborating, working with clients, meeting, as well as going above and beyond their expectations. I’ve been commissioned by Phase One to for them in front of an industry crowd at JJ Media studios in London and now have a great relationship with the brand. Building these strong relationships with my clients along the way are so important! As well as shooting editorial and commercial work, I continue to work on personal portrait and landscape projects and enjoy exhibiting my work. My first exhibition was with The Royal Photographic Society at their first ever International Photo-Book Exhibition.
Away from the camera, I love spending time with my family, keeping fit and healthy and enjoying life.
Stay humble and take care.
