My name is Mark Kelly, I am a photographer based in London. My work covers Fashion, Portrait and Social Documentary work..
Back in the 90’s, a friend who was an amazing analogue retoucher (who now has a book called, Fashion Image Revolution - check it out), used to show me prints he was retouching by hand, for photographers such as Nick Knight, Anton Corbijn, and Glen Lutchford. Those amazing images I was exposed to back then, resonated with me ever since. Thinking that I could never do photography but always having the question in the back of my mind… but could I? I eventually took the leap and picked up a camera myself when my first son was born, while at the time studying for a law degree.
As my photography knowledge grew, shots of the family soon expanded into taking social documentary portraits, studying work of the many Magnum photographer’s and the way they looked at composition. I studied the greats from Richard Avedon through to Steven Meisel and all in-between and the way they manipulated light; to Anne Leibowitz one of my favourite portrait photographers of all time. They have all had an influence on my photography in some way. Since being selected for photography Mastered, headed by Inez & Vinoodh, and Fabien Baron of Baron & Baron; I haven’t looked back since.
I love collaborating, working with clients, meeting, as well as going above and beyond their expectations. I was commissioned by the Phase One camera brand to shoot a live fashion shoot in front of an industry crowd at JJ Media studios in London. Building these strong relationships with my clients along the way are so important! As well as shooting editorial and commercial work, I shoot social documentary projects and enjoy exhibiting my work. My first exhibition being, The Royal Photographic Society’s first ever International Photo-Book Exhibition.
Away from the camera, I love spending time with my family, training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, cycling, swimming, staying healthy and trying to be the best person I can in whatever I do.
Stay humble and take care.
